Our Captains charity this year is the Alzheimer's Society which is a care and research charity set up to help people who have dementia and also their carers.
Alzheimer's was first established as a medical condition, which affects the brain, by a German Scientist called Aloses Alzheimer in 1901.
After 118 years a cure has yet to be found for this terrible disease.
Research for a cure is still continuing however emphasis is now being put on finding ways to slow down the progression of dementia and the society is planning to spend £150 million over the next decade in cutting edge research.
Worldwide, somebody is diagnosed with ALZHEIMER'S every 4 seconds, affecting over 40 million people and has been found to affect 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 years.
Alzheimer's is a progressive brain disease caused by abnormal deposits of Proteins that destroys brain cells causing problems with memory, thinking and behaviour.
The Society needs every financial help that it can get and who knows it may be one of us who will need their help in the future. Our Captains are asking members and visitors to help raise funds for their charity
