On a rather blustery day our Captain Eddie Babb and Lady Captain Karen Wyer got the new season started by driving off from the 10th tee on Saturday morning. They arrived attired in full army uniform to reflect their support for the Royal British Legion as their charity for the year. The predicted heavy rain was good enough to hold off until all the outdoor ceremonies could be completed. Last year's Captains Martin Booth and Jeanette Brown started by "putting out" on the 18th to signify the end of their year before our two Captains took to the tee and both hit their drives in great style straight down the fairway, witnessed by members family and friends. A bowl of punch and breakfast pastries were enjoyed inside where the ceremonial driver was presented to Eddie and flowers to Karen. The events culminated in a moving performance of the Last Post with the words of "For the fallen" spoken by an officer of the Royal British Legion. We all wish Eddie and Karen good luck, good weather and good golf for their year as Captains of Horsley Lodge.
